Taste Test received $20,000 to create four new restaurant concepts, one every four months for 16 months, at a storefront on North Beaver Street in downtown York. This project includes a partnership with the York College Department of Hospitality. At the end of the 16-month period, the York community will “vote” by crowdfunding on the pop up concept to become the newest downtown restaurant.
Taste Test, developed by Toni Calderone, owner of Tutoni’s in downtown York; and Allison Given, marketing and events coordinator for Tutoni’s, will bring fresh new flavors to York that could include sushi, ramen, Indian, a juice bar, and more. Calderone and Given will work with students from York College’s Department of Hospitality, who will have the opportunity to develop concepts and business plans and execute them alongside professionals for real-world experience. After the initial concept debuts, it will “flip” to the next concept until all four have lived in the space for four months. Once the York community chooses its favorite, the winning concept will go into a permanent spot downtown.
